egrace.com
eGrace.com is a startup venture focused on connecting artisan jewelry makers with a turnkey marketing platform and distribution capability. I joined the team to redesign their mobile experience and much of that effort has influenced their experience across all viewports.
My role: UX, Visual Design, User Research
The need:
As a consumer: I want a place where I can browse and purchase exclusively handmade jewelry.
As an artist: I want a platform where I can easily market and sell my handmade jewelry to a qualified audience
The users:
We generated our user personas from interviews with artists at major trade shows, and competitive analysis.
The artist: the are creative individuals who create handmade jewelry either as their primary job or as a passionate side venture. They put a tremendous amount of work into their craft and are proud that their work can compete at ever level - and beyond - with mass production. They focus more on their craft and may not have a background in ecommerce or marketing.
The Connoisseur: these are consumers who place a tremendous value on handmade, unique works of art. The love the craft that goes into each piece and are as connected to the artist and their background as they are the pieces they purchase.
Filtering Capabilities
Filtering is critically important for consumers in the handmade category - they have specific needs and wants for materials and design. Since the majority of users are browsing via mobile, it made sense to go with a simple, tactile approach. Also important was making the filtering approachable. With so many options, structuring the experience to occur in the minimum visible area made it feel less overwhelming.
Checkout Experience
Ecommerce experiences well over 50% abandonment from checkout experiences. So an easy, fast checkout is critical. Equally important is fulfilling expectations of how long the process will take and what steps are next.
